On the Hawser, a Tugboat Album by Steven Lang and Peter Specter, Down East books, Camden, Maine, 1980. The best source of information and photos of U.S. tugs that I know of.
Schooners and Schooner Barges by Paul C. Morris, Lower Cape Publishing, Orleans, Massachusetts, 1984. Lots of information about coastal schooners, barges and towing during the late 19th century and early to mid twentieth century.
Building Classic Small Craft by John Gardner, International Marine, Camden, Maine, 1977. History and details of the construction on a number of small craft.

American Small Sailing Craft by Howard I Chappelle, W.W. Norton, 1951. Descriptions and figures of American small craft.

The American Fishing Schooners by Howard I Cappelle, W.W. Norton, 1995. Detailed descriptions and figures of New England fishing schooners. Plenty of detail to build a model from.

Boatbuilding, A Complete Handbook of wooden Boat Construction, by Howard I Chappelle, W.W. Norton, 1994.

The Dory Book by John Gardner, Mystic Seaport Museum Publications, 1987. Detailed descriptions of dorys and how to build them.
The Dory Model Book by Harold "Dynamite" Payson, His web site
The built up ship model, by Charles G. Davis, Dover Publications, 1990. Description of building a plank on frame model of the American Revolutionary ship Lexington.

Model Making edited by Raymond Francis Yates, Norman W. Henley Publishing New York, 1919 and 1925, reprinted by Lindsay Publications, Bradley, Illinois, 1985. Operational models the old way, steam engines, boilers, propellers, steam speed boats and airplanes, trains and more.
Woodenboat magazine, Brooklin, Maine. An unending source of inspiration and information about wooden boats of all kinds
Live Steam magazine, Traverse City, Michigan. Information about the live steam hobby including locomotives and railroading, with some marine topics. Lots of how-to-build articles.
Seaways Ships in Scale magazine, ship modeler's magazine covering many topics.
